In 2008 my family took a trip to Qinghai (Tibetan Autonomous Region) to visit an orphanage called The Kuthor School.

We stayed for a couple nights, hanging out with the kids and handing out books and toys we brought. I used photography as a way of interacting and communicating.

I used the photos as inspiration for paintings I sold to raise money for the orphanage.

Along with other fundraising, we ended up raising enough money to build new classrooms, kitchens, dorms and a water pump.

We eventually lost touch with the director of the school after the Chinese government made the sweeping effort to assimilate ethnically Tibetan schools into the Chinese school systems.
